We Are Central Church, a servant community working for a world of peace and justice.
We are a voice speaking out from within our city, like a conscience speaks to the person to
whom it belongs, and whose life it shares. Counting on the rock of our faith in Christ, we
proclaim, follow, and worship a God who calls us to create a faith-powered,
justice-seeking, reconciling, and peace-loving world for all people.
Central United Methodist Church, one of the first Protestant congregations in Michigan, is a
Reconciling Congregation that welcomes all people regardless of socio-economic status, race, gender
identification or sexuality. We have been working for peace with justice in three centuries. We were
organized in 1810, incorporated in 1822, and completed the current sanctuary in 1867. We envision
Central United Methodist Church as a vital, diverse, River of Life nurtured by the light of Christ, rooted
deeply in and living the scripture, a holy presence in the center of the City of Detroit, transforming
individuals, institutions, and the world, advocating peace and justice in all we do.
Join us every Sunday at 11:00 for Services, then stay immediately after
