Dr. Edward Maki-Schramm is the Director of Music and Chair of Worship at Central United Methodist Church in Detroit, a reconciling, peace and justice congregation. At Central Church, Dr. Maki-Schramm directs two choirs, oversees a gospel ensemble, and plays the historic and mighty 72-rank Skinner pipe organ. Central Church is the oldest protestant church in Michigan. The church celebrated its bicentennial in 2010 and Dr. Maki-Schramm chaired the Bicentennial Committee.

Dr. Maki-Schramm received his MMus and DMA from the University of Michigan and his BMus from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. While a student, he was the first place winner at the Jean and Broadus Staley Organ Competition in Organ Improvisation, sponsored by the American Center for Church Music two years consecutively, 1994 and 1995.

As a dedicated Detroiter, Dr. Maki-Schramm serves as the Assistant Conductor and Accompanist for the Community Chorus of Detroit. In 2006 and 2010, he played recitals in Germany, Finland and Sweden on historic instruments. He was the organist chosen to perform for the 2005 Grammy Award winning recording of William Bolcom's "Songs of Innocence and Experience." In September 2004, Dr. Maki-Schramm made his European debut playing a recital at the Schlosskirche in
Altenburg, Germany (the church of Johann Ludwig Krebs). His recordings have been featured on the nationally syndicated radio program, Pipedreams. For more information, please visit his website:
