June 22-26  Central will participate in the U.S. Social Forum at Cobo Hall, a grassroots “movement of movements” across many struggles: race, age, color etc.,  to create social change and common solutions to build “a new United States of America for the people and by the people.”  The forum participants will be part of Central’s worship service on June 27th.

 Sun. Oct. 3-- Bishop Jonathan D. Keaton will lead Worldwide Communion Sunday and a Bicentennial Homecoming Service to be held in the afternoon to allow clergy, choirs and members of other Michigan congregations can join at Central for the celebration which will include a wide diversity of musical styles, dance and drama.

Sun. Oct. 24.  Rev. Barbara Lewis-Lakin former Associate Pastor at Central will preach at the 10 a.m. service.

 November 12, 8 p.m. Janis Ian concert--Grammy winning singer/songwriter, she wrote two seminal songs in the folk/rock movement, "Society's Child" about a relationship between a black boy and white girl and also, "At Seventeen" about how love was only for the beautiful. 

 Sun. Nov. 14. Rev. Dr. Richard C. Devor, former senior pastor of Central will preach at the 10 a.m. service.  He is a New Testament scholar and one of the leaders of the movement that lead to the official designation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday in Michigan.

 Dec. 5.  Central’s Annual Peace and Justice Banquet will culminate the year’s celebration.
